Global Design Project 109 Color Challenge – Guest Designer

Welcome to an exciting post for me!  During the last Global Design Project Color Challenge, my card was selected as the winner, which means that I take the spot as Guest Designer for this week’s Color Challenge 109 featuring the colors of Old Olive, Basic Black and Gold.  This truly means a lot to me as it is my second go-round as a Guest Designer and I am ecstatic!

I don’t Heat Emboss all too often but when a metallic color is involved, Stampin’ Emboss Powder is the way to go for adding that touch of metallic.  I used Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder pretty heavily in my creation, but I think it worked well in the end.  The embossed sentiment was hard to photograph without it looking a tad on the blurry side, so please excuse my photography, I tried several attempts at making it look clear and soon just accepted it as is. 🙂

This was my first use of the Season Like Christmas Stamp Set.  I am slowly ticking away at my box of ‘unused’ items from my 2017 Holiday Catalog order.  I chose this set because I saw the colors of the challenge in the trees.  Old Olive was perfect for the Pine Needles, Basic Black worked well for the Tree Trunk/Branches and Ornaments/Dots and I stepped up the Snow to shimmering Gold!

I love dimension and add lots of dimension to all my creations.  Stampin’ Dimensionals get a lot of action in my craft room, as well as my Paper Snips.  Fussy Cutting is a therapy for me, it’s soothing and I think it really steps up a paper craft project. So, to give this project dimension, I fussy cut three of the 4-Step Stamping ‘Trees’ from the Seasons Like Christmas Stamp Set. Since the stamps are Photopolymer, they are clear and easy to see through to line-up for each step needed to create the beautiful tree.

I love flagged ends and add them to several of my cards and scrapbook pages.  They are easy to create with our handy Triple Banner Punch, which accommodates three widths (hence the name, triple).  On this project I just used one size, the 1/2 inch. I cropped 4 different flagged ends using different areas of the Merry Little Christmas DSP to build contrast.  I staggered them and glued them with Fast Fuse behind the Gold Foil.

I also took several stars from the Wood Hearts & Stars Elements.  Stamped Versamark on them, dipped them in the Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and set it with my Heat Tool.  (I used a tweezers to hold on to the Star while heating it). I added the Gold Embossed Wood Stars to several areas of my card, using the Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere them in place.

Card Details:

  • Card Base is Basic Black Cardstock cut to 4 1/4 in x 11 in and scored / folded at 5.5 in.
  • 2nd Layer is Gold Foil cut 1/8 in smaller than the card base at 4 1/8 in. x 5 3/8 in and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Tip: With the Stampin’ Trimmer, cut out the center of the Gold Foil that will be covered with the next layer to get the most bang for your buck.
  • 3rd Layer is Merry Little Christmas DSP cut to 4 in x 5 1/4 in and adhered to the Gold Foil with Fast Fuse Adhesive.
  • I used the largest Stitched Shape Circle Framelit to crop out the Gold Foil circle and adhered to the bottom left corner with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • I cut another piece of Gold Foil to 3 in x 4 in, staggered the flags I created with the Triple Banner Punch behind it and then adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Basic Black Cardstock was cut 1/8 in. smaller than the Gold Foil (2 7/8 in. x 3 7/8 in.) . I used the Star stamp from the Seasons Like Christmas to stamp in Versamark and Heat Embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  It was adhered to the Gold Foil with Fast Fuse.
  • I stamped the two sentiments in Versamark on Basic Black Cardstock, Heat Embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I cropped one with the 1 3/4 in. Circle Punch and cut the other to size (1/2 in x 2 1/2  before flagging) with my Stampin’ Trimmer.  I flagged the end with my Triple Banner Punch.  I added Gold Metallic Thread behind the circle sentiment and Wood Star Elements, Heat Embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder (as stated above), to each piece.
  • The Trees were stamped on Whisper White Cardstock in the following order:  Old Olive for the Pine Needles, Basic Black Archival Ink for the Tree Trunk, Versamark for the Snow (two stamps) adding Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder heated with the Heat Tool and then Basic Black Archival Ink again for the Dots/Ornaments. I fussy cut each one and adhered with Fast Fuse and Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added a Embossed Wood Star Element to the top of the tallest tree.
  • The two pieces on the top left were scraps from making my flagged ends on the bottom left. I staggered them, adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then added two Gold Embossed Stars.
