Say What? Gnomes made with Mini Coffee Cups?
I love adorable gnomes just as much as I love cute little owls. I know, I’m a dork, but I own it and love it all the same.
I will do my best to give step-by-step details so that you can recreate them or at least a version with your own personal style.
All products used on my Mini Coffee Cup Gnomes are from Stampin’ Up! and links to those products will be listed/linked at the end of my post for your convenience. Keep in mind that these were created as I went, using trial and error. There may be a better, more efficient way to create them, but I am sharing how they came to life, while watching a Twins game on a Sunday afternoon in my living room :).
How to Assemble the Hat:
- Cut off the “small lip” of the Mini Coffee Cup cover with Paper Snips so that it is a flat surface. Add a strip of Tear & Tape adhesive to the remaining “lip”.
- Cut a piece of Designer Series Paper to 9 x 12. Form around the Mini Coffee Cup cover until it is in the shape of a cone. Adhere the edges together with Tear & Tape Adhesive and the center to the Mini Coffee Cup cover.
- Cut a 1 1/2 x 11 strip of coordinating Designer Series Paper and wrap around the cone hat, about 2″ from the top, adhering the ends with Tear & Tape Adhesive.
- Wrap Gold 1/16″ Cord around the coordinating Designer Series Paper adhering to the back side with Mini Glue Dots that have been rolled between your fingers to remain hidden.
- Cut several 1*1/2″ to 2″ pieces of Real Red 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim. Shred to individual threads. Tie together through the middle with a piece of thread to create the poms for the top of the hats. Adhere to the top of the hat with a hot glue gun.
- Thread 4 Gold Jingle Bells onto a piece of Gold 1/16″ Cord. Tie around the top of the hat (the male).
How to Assemble the Bodies & Beard & Braids, Etc:
- Bodies: Wrap the coffee cups in coordinating Designer Series Paper, adhering with Stampin’ Seal+ or Tear & Tape Adhesive.
- Female: Use the All Dressed Up Dies and coordinating Designer Series Paper to cut the pocket, straps and buttons for the “bib overalls”. Adhere with Mini Glue Dots.
- Beard: Cut a roll of 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim into various lengths from 2″ to 4″. Gently pull the fibers so they start to come apart. Adhere in layers to the top of the coffee cup with Tear & Tape or hot glue.
- Braids: Cut a roll of 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim into 5″-6″ pieces. Split into two groups. Tie the top with Linen Thread. Braid as shown. Tie at the bottom with Linen Thread and then double wrap with Real Red 3/8″ Braided Linen Trim, securing with a bow. Adhere to the top of the cup with Tear & Tape Adhesive or hot glue.
- Noses: Crop pieces of Petal Pink Cardstock using the Balloon Bouquet Punch. Use the stylus end of a Take Your Pick tool to create the depth around the edge of the noses. Adhere with Tear & Tape Adhesive.
- Feet: Crop pieces of coordinating Designer Series Paper with the Balloon Bouquet Punch. Snip the end tie end off with Paper Snips. Adhere together with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Adhere to 1″ x 6″ pieces of Designer Series Paper that have been rolled into a circle (to form the legs) together and to the cup with Tear & Tape or hot glue.
- Earrings: Tie Gold Jingle Bells to Gold 1/16″ Cord. Adhere up under the hat with Mini Glue Dots or hot glue.
The photo above represents most the of the materials I used to create my Mini Coffee Cups Christmas Gnomes and coordinating succulents gifts. Just add your choice of Designer Series Paper and a Paper Trimmer and you have the recipe for cuteness.
Begin by cutting a piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock to 8″ x 9 1/4″. Score and fold at 4″.
Cut a piece of Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper to 3 3/4″ x 8 1/2″. Adhere to the card base with Stampin’ Seal.
Crop three circles from a 3 1/2″ x 8 3/4″ piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock as shown using a Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Magnetic Plate, and the 2 3/8″ & 2 5/8″ Layering Circle Dies.
Place a 3 1/2″ x 8 3/4″ piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock under the negative space of the circles you just cropped. Use a Stamparatus to lineup the stamps within the circles. Remove the top piece and stamp the images in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Stamp the 3rd gnome onto a scrap piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock.
Color the images with the following Stampin’ Blends (Light & Dark): Mossy Meadow, Old Olive, Poppy Parade, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight, Ivory and Color Lifter.
Adhere to the card with Stampin’ Seal. Adhere the top with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Cut the 3rd gnome with Paper Snips. Adhere as shown with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Mask and stamp the sentiment in sections with Versamark as shown. Cover with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, tap to remove the excess, set with a Heat Tool. Crop with the Classic Label Punch. Snip the ends to size. Adhere with Stampin’ Dimensionals and Mini Glue Dots.
