Watercolor Wings for Global Design Project 101 Color Challenge

Today I am playing along with the Global Design Project 101 Color Challenge!  I gotta say, I am over the moon for this color combination and I would have never put it together on my own!  That is why I love challenges so much, they make me work outside my realm of creativity.  They bring tools out of hiding, accessories cleaned of dust bunnies and a wider variety to my blog!  I play them as much as I can, especially when I feel I am heading towards a rut that I need to crawl out of.

A butterfly came to mind when I saw these colors, so I decided to run with it and give the Watercolor Wings a try. I hadn’t intended to do the same watercolor background as last week but I navigated towards it and decided to give it another shot.

I haven’t used Flirty Flamingo much, maybe one other time…and it was more than likely for a challenge.  It is growing on me and I think it will slowly become a staple in my crafting.

Card Details:

• Card Base is Whisper White 12 x 12 Cardstock, cut in half at 6 in. and scored / folded at 6 in. to create a square card.
• 2nd Layer is Crumb Cake Cardstock cut to 5.875 in x 5.875 in and adhered to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
• Top Layer is Shimmery White Cardstock cut to 5.75 in x 5.75 in.  I added lots of color (Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay and Flirty Flamingo) and water with an Aqua Painter, drying with my heat tool in between layers.
• The Watercolor Wings Butterfly image is a 3-Step Stamp.  The bottom layer is Flirty Flamingo, the outer layer is Night of Navy and the inner layer is Bermuda Bay.  I zipped it through the Big Shot with the Coordinating Bold Butterfly Framelits Die. I stamped the Bermuda Bay again on a separate piece of Shimmery White and snipped it out with Paper Snips. I adhered it to the top of the butterfly with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
• I added Copper Metallic Thread behind the butterflies before adhering them to the to layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Copper Metallic Assorted Sequins were added as a final touch.

I cannot wait to see all the submissions for this color challenge!  You can either go bright and bold or soft and subtle, these colors are so versatile and vary with how you use them!
