When creating with the Pick A Pumpkin Bundle, I always gravitate to a portrait card. I did this on a previous Pick A Pumpkin card that you can see by click the link below:

Pick A Pumpkin for GDP 105 Color Challenge

The Stamp Review Crew Brings Spooky Cat

The Stamp Review Crew Brings You Spooky Cat

Spooky Cat Bundle from the Stampin' Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog for the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop, Details at Stampin' Hoot! Created by Stesha Bloodhart #stampinup #2017holidaycatalog #spookycatbundle #spookycat #watercolor #halloweencard #papercrafts #cardmaking

Welcome to my 2nd Blog Hop with the Stamp Review Crew!  Today the team is featuring the fabulous halloween set called Spooky Cat.  This bundle is wonderful and has been used by me to create a variety of halloween cards and decor.  It has been my most loved stamp set (so far) from the Holiday Catalog. I wanted to create another card using the galaxy background, so I decided to try it with this set.

Spooky Cat Bundle from the Stampin' Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog for the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop, Details at Stampin' Hoot! Created by Stesha Bloodhart #stampinup #2017holidaycatalog #spookycatbundle #spookycat #watercolor #halloweencard #papercrafts #cardmaking

I have had several people ask me how I created the Galaxy Background, so I thought I would include a few photos of the steps that I take to get the results shown here.

Items Needed:  Watercolor Paper, Aqua Painter and Classic Ink Refills

1) Start with a piece of Watercolor Paper. 2) Saturate it with water from your Aqua Painter. 3) Grab Night of Navy Classic Ink with your Aqua Painter and add it to random areas on your paper.  Be sure to keep the water flowing with your Aqua Painter.  The Night of Navy should be your most dominant color. 4) Add Rich Razzelberry to the Watercolor Paper in areas alongside the Night of Navy, don’t be afraid to mix the colors together. 5) Finish filling in open areas of the Watercolor Paper with the remaining colors:

  • Perfect Plum
  • Elegant Eggplant
  • Dapper Denim

After all colors have been added, take the Aqua Painter and swipe from left at an angle across the entire sheet.  You can see it in the last photo how the end result looks.  It will dry lighter and the colors will show through after drying. Make sure the Watercolor Paper is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.  Use your Heat Tool to speed up the process if needed.  6) Add the ‘stars’ to the background by grabbing color with your Aqua Painter from your Whisper White Craft Ink Refill, squeeze a small amount of water then tap on the Aqua Painter while over the top of your Watercolor Paper.

I used the largest circle die from the Layering Circles Framelits Die Set to crop out a piece of Watercolor Paper to create the moon.  I colored it with my Aqua Painter and Crushed Curry Classic Ink.  After allowing it to dry, I added a bit more ink to small areas to get a more realistic looking moon.  Tip: Stay light on the water when adding the 2nd layer of color.

I used the Cat Punch to crop the Cat out of Watercolor Paper.  I colored it with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker, then lightly went over it with my Aqua Painter to achieve a more blended look.  After allowing it to dry, I stamped the eyes with Whisper White Craft Ink.

The Witch Hat was stamped with Night of Navy Ink onto Watercolor Paper.  I blended it with my Aqua Painter, lifting some of the dark ink off and then adding Crushed Curry to make it look like the moon is reflecting off of it. I fussy cut the hat with my Paper Snips, removing the spider and web as I cut.

The Happy Halloween and Label were stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink on Watercolor Paper.  I added Pumpkin Pie Ink, again with my Aqua Painter and used my Paper Snips to cut away the pieces I didn’t want leaving what you see on the card.

The Owl was stamped on Whisper White Cardstock with Basic Black Archival Ink. I again fussy cut the image with my Paper Snips. I colored the beak and talons with my Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker. The branch was created with Basic Black Cardstock, paired with my Big Shot and the branch from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies Set.

All Images were adhered to the background with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Welcome to the Pals October 2017 Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Pals October 2017 Blog Hop featuring some very “Wicked Folds”.

Thank you so much for joining us today. Sit back and enjoy the view while the Stampin’ Pretty Pals treat you with their wickedly folded projects. Whether you’re just starting the hop, or have come from a previous Pal’s blog, you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.

Spooky Night Suite for a Wicked Folds Halloween Easel Shaped Invitation by Stesha Bloodhart Stampin' Hoot! For Pals October 2017 Blog Hop #palsbloghop #stampinup #halloween #halloweeninvitation #papercrafts #cardmaking #stamping #spookynight #catpunch #owl

I am sharing a lot of photos to ensure I cover all aspects of my Halloween Easel Card Party Invitation. I have never been a big one to endure creating a card using a bunch of crazy or in this case “wicked folds”.  I love the results and I think they are amazing, it’s just not my creative outlet.  When I looked at the “Wicked Folds” theme for the October 2017 Pals Blog Hop, I had no idea where to start.  I went to Pinterest and scanned the results of a “card folds” search only to come up with a bunch of samples I had no interest in pursuing.

So, I decided to create one from scratch and something I could make on the fly.  I wanted to keep it simple so I envisioned something like an easel but with a “window” you could see through.  I grabbed a 12×12 Widow Sheet and cut a piece to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, a standard sized A2 card front.

I then had to imagine how I could make it stand like an easel, so I grabbed a piece of 12×12 Black Cardstock and cut it down to 4 1/4 in x 12 in so it was the same width as the Window Sheet piece I had already cut.  I needed to attach the Window Sheet to something so I scored the Basic Black Cardstock at 1/2 inch and folded it over so that I could adhere the Window Sheet to the back side. (I used Fast Fuse).

I needed to make the back side of the easel the same height as the Window Sheet so I scored again at 6 inches. I then cut a piece of Spooky Night DSP to 4 1/4 in x 5 1/2 inch and adhered it with Fast Fuse to the inside of the Black Cardstock, so you are viewing it when you look through the Window Sheet. I decorated the top of the piece of DSP with images from the Spooky Cat Stamp Set, using the Cat Punch to quickly crop out the cat and my Paper Snips to fussy cut the remaining images.  The Tree and Moon Image that the Owl is sitting on, along with the Witch Hat on the Cat, are both snipped from a piece of the Spooky Night DSP.  All Images were adhered with Regular and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Now I needed to create the Bottom to hold up my Easel Top.  So I scored and folded three more times at 8 3/4 in (fold in), 9 1/4 in (fold in) and 9 3/4 in (fold out). I just happened to get lucky and it worked out perfectly.  It made a place holder for my Easel and a spot that I could add my invitation details. Note:  The Invitation Details were stamped with a retired Photopolymer Set called Invitation Details.  You can easily print this or handwrite it out if you do not have this set available to you.

The “You’re Invited” Image is from the Graveyard Gate Stamp Set and was stamped on Shimmery White Cardstock with Basic Black Archival Ink.  I snipped it out with the Paper Snips and adhered the ends to the top flap of the easel. Note: If you are going to put the invitation in the mail (mine will be handed off in person), you can move the You’re Invited image down so that it would fit in a Medium Envelope.

The Season to Sparkle Photopolymer Bundle (made up of the Season to Sparkle Stamp Set and Chandelier Thinlits Dies) was used to decorate the Window Sheet. The Chandelier was created by zipping the Chandelier Die through the Big Shot along with Shimmery White Cardstock.  I then colored it with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. The Hanging Spiders, Candles and Crows were all stamped on Shimmery White Cardstock with Basic Black Archival Ink and zipped with the Big Shot with the coordinating dies to quickly crop them out. I adhered them to the Window Sheet with the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.

I used the yellow paper clip from the Eclectic Shaped Paper Clips pack to hold the invite together (seen in the first and second photos) and show off the “Open If You DARE” sentiment from the Graveyard Gate Stamp Set. I used the Every Day Label Punch to crop out a piece of Spooky Night DSP and mount it behind the sentiment. The Crow on top was the final touch to the front of the invitation.

A Spooky and Fun Graveyard Gate Halloween Card

Graveyard Gate Bundle from Stampin' Up! Detailed Gate Thinlits Dies and Graveyard Gate Stamp Set Make for a Spooky and Fun Halloween Card. Details at Stampin' Hoot! #stampinup #halloweencard #graveyardgate #detailedgatedies #stampinup #cardmaking #papercrafts #stamping #demonstrator

A Spooky and Fun Graveyard Gate Halloween Card

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because of the excitement it brings the kids!  My two boys start talking about what their costume is going to be several months ahead of time. Granted, it may morph and change to something different before we actually do our shopping, but the excitement never dies.

I have been pondering what I would do with this bundle for quite some time.  After making my galaxy background used on yesterday’s post, that was originally intended for this card, I decided to attempt the same technique, only this time adding in a moon to make it more Halloween.

Card Details:

  • Card Base is Whisper White Thick Cardstock cut to 4 1/4 x 11 in and scored / folded at 5 1/2 in.
  • The 2nd layer is a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock cut to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 in. (same as card base dimensions to accommodate the gate).  I added the color with my go-to Aqua Painter.  I first sketched out the moon to ensure that I did not get the dark colors from the sky in the wrong place.  I used the following colors on this card:
    • Moon: Smoky Slate and Crushed Curry
      • Be sure to leave some white space when coloring the moon.  I wanted to obtain a more lifelike look so I only shaded with my coloring.  I used just a little Crushed Curry for a yellow hue, I didn’t want it to be all bright white.  I wanted a cloud hanging in front of the moon so I added a bit more of smoky slate to it.
    • Sky: Night of Navy, Rich Razzleberry, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant, Dapper Denim and Whisper White Craft Ink Refill
      • I randomly added the mix of colors to the card, making sure to leave the moon and also add some lighter areas around where I was going to set the grave markers.
  • The Graveyard Gate was cut with the Big Shot, the Precision Base Plate and Watercolor Paper.
    • Tip: Since the Watercolor Paper is thicker, run it back and forth through the Big Shot a few times to ensure a solid cut.
    • After cutting out the gate, I colored it with my Aqua Painter and Night of Navy Ink.  I scored the ends twice at 1/8 in intervals and folded them over.  I added Fast Fuse to the inside fold and adhered it to the 2nd Layer. (see photo below)
    • I also cut the center of the gate so it would look like it can easily be opened.
    • The Lock was also cut with the Big Shot, but make sure you swap out your plate and use a Standard Cutting Pad to ensure you do not damage the die.  I colored the lock with Smoky Slate Ink.
  • The Graveyard Stones were stamped on Watercolor Paper with Smoky Slate Ink.  I blended the color with my Aqua Painter and then snipped them out with my Paper Snips.
  • The Sentiments were stamped with Smoky Slate Ink onto Shimmery White Cardstock.  I cut them closely with my Paper Snips and adhered them with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Here is a close-up of the moon so that you can see the watercolor details.   The white dots are representing stars / galaxy and they are obtained by using a drop of White Craft Ink Refill, an Aqua Painter, squeeze of water and tapping over the top of the cardstock.

The headstones were strategically placed on the “hill” and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and Fast Fuse to add depth.  I snipped the hook on the lock so that I could wrap it around both sides of the gate and make it more like it was locked.

Spooky Night Halloween for Global Design Project 104

Spooky Cat Photopolymer Stamp Set and Spooky Night Designer Series Paper by Stampin' Up! for Global Design Project 104 by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! #spookycat #spookyfun #gdp104 #stampinup #halloween #cardmaking #handmadecards #papercrafts #halloweencards

Spooky Night Halloween for Global Design Project 104

Global Design Project 104 Case the Designer Allison Okamitsu #gdp104

Today I am playing along with Global Design Project 104: Case the Designer!  The talented Allison Okamitsu is front and center this month and I love the card she created! She created her own background paper by stamping ‘For A Great’ stamp from the Lovely Inside & Out Clear-Mount Stamp Set.  I decided to do the same with the ‘Happy Halloween’ stamp from the Spooky Cat Photopolymer Stamp Set, newly released from the Stampin’ Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog!

I have to say, my ‘Happy Halloween’s are not as perfectly straight and spaced as Allison’s ‘For a Great’ (she did a fabulous job), but I don’t think they have to be…it adds character and shows that it was done by hand. I did want it to be a tad lighter than Pumpkin Pie is when you stamp in full force, so prior to stamping on the Very Vanilla Cardstock, I stamped on a my Grid Paper to lighten it.

Spooky Cat Photopolymer Stamp Set and Spooky Night Designer Series Paper by Stampin' Up! for Global Design Project 104 by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! #spookycat #spookyfun #gdp104 #stampinup #halloween #cardmaking #handmadecards #papercrafts #halloweencards

Card Details:

  • Card Base is Very Vanilla Cardstock cut to 4 1/4 in x 11 in and scored / folded at 5 1/2 in.
  • 2nd Layer is Very Vanilla Cardstock cut to 4 in x 5 1/4 in.  I stamped ‘Happy Halloween’ from the Spooky Cat Stamp Set several times with Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink, stamping on Grid Paper prior to stamping on the Vanilla.  It was adhered to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • I took a piece of Designer Series Paper from the Spooky Night DSP Pack and cut a strip to 1 1/2 in x 12 in. I scored it at every 1/4 in with the Simply Scored Tool, then folded every other direction.  I glued the two ends together and then pushed it together in the shape of the circle to create the rosette. I adhered the rosette to the 2nd Layer with several strips of Tear Tape.
  • The Wicked Yummy Treat For You was stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock.  Then quickly cropped with the coordinating Every Day Label Punch.  It was adhered to the rosette with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • I used the stamp that looks like lined washi tape with Pumpkin Pie Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock.  The Happy Halloween and Mouse were stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink on Very Vanilla.  Both were snipped out with the Paper Snips.  I glued two pieces of Vintage Crochet Trim to the bottom of the ‘washi tape’ prior to adhering it with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • I cut a Witch Hat from a piece of DSP, added Black Metallic Thread behind it prior to adhering it.
  • I finished the card off with adding Black Rhinestone Jewels to the hat and label punched ends.

I wanted the Medium Very Vanilla envelope to coordinate with the card so I added another Witch Hat cropped from the DSP and also added a Black Rhinestone Jewel to the middle of the hat band.

  • 2nd Layer is a piece of Spooky Night DSP cut to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I wrapped a piece of Vintage Crochet Trim around the bottom and tied it in a knot prior to adhering it to the card base.
  • Top Layer is the Tree/Branch/Moon Square cut from a piece of Spooky Night DSP.  You can either stamp the Owl (from the Spooky Cat Photopolymer Set) in Basic Black Archival Ink directly on the DSP or you can stamp it on Very Vanilla Cardstock and fussy cut it with a Paper Snips.  I adhered the square and the owl with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • The Happy Halloween Sentiment is stamped with Basic Black Archival Ink onto Very Vanilla Cardstock and quickly cropped out with the Classic Label Punch.  This is also adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals (My Free Hoot Loot for the Month of September!).
  • I added one lone Black Rhinestone Jewels to the bottom left of the owl.

Next I show you my Stepped-Up a Hoot! Version.  This one entails a lot of fussy cutting, which if you follow me, you know I LOVE to FUSSY CUT!

Details:

  • Card Base is Very Vanilla Cardstock cut to 4 1/4 in x 11 in and scored / folded at 5.1/2 in.
  • 2nd Layer is a piece of Spooky Night DSP cut to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Top Layer is the Tree/Branch/Moon Square cut from a piece of Spooky Night DSP.  I added Fast Fuse Adhesive around the backside so that I could adhere the Vintage Crochet Trim and create a border with it.  I adhered to the 2nd Layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • I stamped the Owl the from Spooky Cat Stamp Set in Basic Black Archival Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock and snipped it out with Paper Snips. I then took another Tree/Branch/Moon Square and fussy cut the tree, adhered it with snipped up Stampin’ Dimensionals to make it pop!  I am a sucker for dimension, so I love to take the extra time to add it to my creations.
  • The image from Spooky Cat that resembles washi tape, was stamped in Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock. I fussy cut it with Paper Snips and adhered to the DSP Layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The Happy Halloween Sentiment is stamped with Basic Black Archival Ink onto Very Vanilla Cardstock.  I fussy cut around the letters with the Paper Snips and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals (My Free Hoot Loot for the Month of September!).
  • I strategically added three Black Rhinestone Jewels around the owl.
