TGIFC333 Sketch – Fun Fold with Cute Halloween

Batty For You Flamingo, Basic Gray and Basic Black Card for #tgifc333 Sketch Challenge Stesha Bloodhart

TGIF! It’s time for a sketch challenge!

Today, the TGIF Challenges Design Team is showcasing projects using the sketch shown below.

I have been pinning over those adorable bats on the Cute Halloween 6×6 Designer Series Paper. I love the colorful graphics with this paper and that they made the opposite side black and white.  It is one of my FAV Halloween Papers that Stampin’ Up! has released.

Frightfully Cute Die Bundle 156493 Stampin' Up! Order Online with Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot!

Be the funhouse this Halloween: Turn ho-hum trick-or-treat sweets into a delectable surprise with Frightfully Cute Bundle. This bundle includes the Frightfully Cute Stamp Set and the Frightful Tags Dies. Mix and match stamped images with die-cut shapes and tag pieces. Images are sized perfectly to fit on small chocolate bars or other sweets for trick-or-treaters.

FRIGHTFULLY CUTE CLING STAMP SET
Use the images on their own, or layer them to create a Halloween scene. Have fun mixing up the sentiments whether you’re feeling punny or you want to go for a more traditional Halloween greeting—this set has it all! Bold images make it easy to stamp in a single color, or stamp with VersaMark ink for a tone-on-tone look. Keep tags simple, or if you’re feeling fancy, add ribbons and embellishments until your project is frightfully cute.

FRIGHTFUL TAGS DIES
Create cute Halloween-themed tags and paper embellishments with the Frightful Tags Dies. This die set includes tag pieces and traditional Halloween imagery that can be mixed and matched for endless options. Layer the tree, stars, and fence images to create a small Halloween landscape. The owl image looks cute perched in the tree or on the fence. Or use the images on their own for simple tags. Some dies include embossed details, giving the die-cut piece more depth and dimension. The owl piece embosses some feathers, the tree embosses some bark details, and the hat embosses a buckle and some shading.

my step by step free hootorial

Begin with a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 piece of Basic White Thick Cardstock.  Score at 2 1/4 and 6 3/8.  Fold both towards the center of the card (gatefold).

Adhere a 4 7/8 x 3 5/8 piece of Basic Gray Cardstock to a 5 x 3 3/4 piece of Basic Black Cardstock with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Adhere to the top gatefold flap with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Cut three 3/4 x 4 7/8 pieces of Flirty Flamingo Cardstock.  Adhere to the Basic Gray 1/2 inch in from the side, then 3/4 between each strip.

Use the brush end of a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to flick/splatter color onto the card.

Use the Frightful Tags circle die, along with a Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine to crop both a Basic Black and a Basic White piece of cardstock.

Stamp the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto the white circle die-cut. Adhere together and to the card with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Stamp the sentiment to the bottom inside flap of the gatefold.

Cut a 1 x 11 strip of Basic Black Cardstock.  Wrap around the card base as shown, creating a belly band.  Note: they will not connect together.

Crop a piece of Basic Black Cardstock with the Seasonal Labels Die (1 7/8 x 3 3/8) & Ribbon Slots Die. Thread Black & White Gingham Ribbon through the die-cut slots and around the belly band.  Add Stampin’ Dimensionals to the right-center and left-center sides (you do not want to add dimensionals to the area that will contain the opening of the belly band; the belly band needs to slide).  Adhere to the belly band. Secure the ribbon with a bow.

Crop a piece of Basic White card stock with the 2 1/8 x 2 3/8 Seasonal Labels Die. Adhere as shown with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Use Paper Snips Scissors to cut the bat images from the Cute Halloween 6×6 Designer Series Paper.  Adhere all as shown with Stampin’ Dimensionals and Multipurpose Liquid Glue (small bat on the circle die-cut cannot be popped up).

Embellish with Matte Black Dots.

Making Every Day Bright & Christmas Bulb Builder Punch by Stampin' Up! Create Your Own Background Challenge TGIFC179. Card created by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! #steshabloodhart #stampinhoot

TGIF! It’s Time for a Technique!
Welcome to #TGIFC179!  This week it’s time for a C.Y.O.B.(Create Your Own Background) Technique.  I have been eyeing up the Making Every Day Bright Stamp set and that cute little light bulb with the spider & web…I decided to use that to create a background.  Although this card is not a favorite of mine (I think I would have done some things a little differently) I decided to still share it with you.

Making Every Day Bright & Christmas Bulb Builder Punch by Stampin' Up! Create Your Own Background Challenge TGIFC179. Card created by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! #steshabloodhart #stampinhoot

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. With a Stampin’ Trimmer, cut a piece of Basic Black Cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 11″.  Score and fold at 5 1/2″.
  2. Cut a piece of Gorgeous Grape Cardstock to 4″ x 5 1/4″.  Adhere as shown with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  3. Cut a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock to 4″ x 5 1/4″.  Stamp the light strings and light bulb in Jet Black StazOn Ink, alternating placement for each row.  Color with an Aqua Painter using Gorgeous Grape & Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Pads (ink from the cover). Adhere as shown with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  4. Stamp 4 additional light bulbs and 16 light bulb caps and crop with the coordinating Christmas Bulb Builder Punch.  Color with an Aqua Painter using Daffodil Delight & Gorgeous Grape Stampin’ Pads (ink from the cover). Adhere the light bulbs with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the caps with Snail Adhesive.
  5. Cut a piece of Basic Black Cardstock to 3″ x 1/2″.  Flag the end with the Banner Triple Punch. Stamp the “Happy Halloween” sentiment in Versamark Ink, cover with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, flick away the excess and set with a Heat Tool.
  6. Cut a 6″ piece of Black Organdy Glittered Ribbon & Black Cord.  Fold in half, staple to the end of the flagged sentiment and adhere to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  7. Adhere two Spider Trinkets as shown with Mini Glue Dots.

If I were to duplicate this card, I think I would change up the colors of the light bulbs.  I think I would l make the entire bulb the same color and alternate them as Gorgeous Grape, Daffodil Delight, and Pumpkin Pie. Keep the color a little on the lighter side.  What do you think?  What would you do differently?

I absolutely LOVE white embossed sentiments on Basic Black Cardstock, it just makes them pop so much more than black on white.

The Black Organdy Glittered Ribbon is phenomenal and one of my favorites.  And let us not forget about those adorable Spider Trinkets!  The perfect addition to any Halloween card or craft!

When creating with the Pick A Pumpkin Bundle, I always gravitate to a portrait card. I did this on a previous Pick A Pumpkin card that you can see by click the link below:

Pick A Pumpkin for GDP 105 Color Challenge

Quick N’ Easy Card Details:

  • Card Base is Whisper White Thick Cardstock cut to 8 in x 7 in and scored / folded at 3.5 in to create a long and skinny, portrait style card.
  • 2nd Layer is Crumb Cake Cardstock cut 1/4 inch smaller to 7 3/4 in x 3 1/4 in. Adhered to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • 3rd Layer is Whisper White Cardstock cut to 7 1/2 in x 3 in and adhered to the Crumb Cake with Fast Fuse Adhesive.
  • All Pumpkins from the Pick a Pumpkin Stamp Set were stamped in Tangerine Tango Ink with Basic Black Archival Ink for the faces.
  • I used Lemon-Lime Twist and Basic Black Archival Ink (Ink Pads and Stampin’ Write Markers) on the leaves.
  • The 1/4 in Lemon-Lime Twist Ombre Ribbon was wrapped around the top layer and secured with a bow. The Basic Black Solid Bakers Twine was wrapped and secured with a simple knot.
  • The Happy Halloween Sentiment is from the Season to Sparkle Stamp Set.  I cut to size with my Stampin’ Trimmer and flagged the end with the Banner Triple Punch.  It was popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Black Rhinestone Jewels were added as a final touch.

Here is a closer look at the Pick A Pumpkin Bundle.  The Quick N’ Easy Card only utilizes the stamp set.  My Stepped-Up A Hoot Card uses both the stamp set and dies included in the bundle.

Spooky Cat Bundle from the Stampin' Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog for the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop, Details at Stampin' Hoot! Created by Stesha Bloodhart #stampinup #2017holidaycatalog #spookycatbundle #spookycat #watercolor #halloweencard #papercrafts #cardmaking

Welcome to my 2nd Blog Hop with the Stamp Review Crew!  Today the team is featuring the fabulous halloween set called Spooky Cat.  This bundle is wonderful and has been used by me to create a variety of halloween cards and decor.  It has been my most loved stamp set (so far) from the Holiday Catalog. I wanted to create another card using the galaxy background, so I decided to try it with this set.

Spooky Cat Bundle from the Stampin' Up! 2017 Holiday Catalog for the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop, Details at Stampin' Hoot! Created by Stesha Bloodhart #stampinup #2017holidaycatalog #spookycatbundle #spookycat #watercolor #halloweencard #papercrafts #cardmaking

I have had several people ask me how I created the Galaxy Background, so I thought I would include a few photos of the steps that I take to get the results shown here.

Items Needed:  Watercolor Paper, Aqua Painter and Classic Ink Refills

1) Start with a piece of Watercolor Paper. 2) Saturate it with water from your Aqua Painter. 3) Grab Night of Navy Classic Ink with your Aqua Painter and add it to random areas on your paper.  Be sure to keep the water flowing with your Aqua Painter.  The Night of Navy should be your most dominant color. 4) Add Rich Razzelberry to the Watercolor Paper in areas alongside the Night of Navy, don’t be afraid to mix the colors together. 5) Finish filling in open areas of the Watercolor Paper with the remaining colors:

  • Perfect Plum
  • Elegant Eggplant
  • Dapper Denim

After all colors have been added, take the Aqua Painter and swipe from left at an angle across the entire sheet.  You can see it in the last photo how the end result looks.  It will dry lighter and the colors will show through after drying. Make sure the Watercolor Paper is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.  Use your Heat Tool to speed up the process if needed.  6) Add the ‘stars’ to the background by grabbing color with your Aqua Painter from your Whisper White Craft Ink Refill, squeeze a small amount of water then tap on the Aqua Painter while over the top of your Watercolor Paper.

I used the largest circle die from the Layering Circles Framelits Die Set to crop out a piece of Watercolor Paper to create the moon.  I colored it with my Aqua Painter and Crushed Curry Classic Ink.  After allowing it to dry, I added a bit more ink to small areas to get a more realistic looking moon.  Tip: Stay light on the water when adding the 2nd layer of color.

I used the Cat Punch to crop the Cat out of Watercolor Paper.  I colored it with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker, then lightly went over it with my Aqua Painter to achieve a more blended look.  After allowing it to dry, I stamped the eyes with Whisper White Craft Ink.

The Witch Hat was stamped with Night of Navy Ink onto Watercolor Paper.  I blended it with my Aqua Painter, lifting some of the dark ink off and then adding Crushed Curry to make it look like the moon is reflecting off of it. I fussy cut the hat with my Paper Snips, removing the spider and web as I cut.

The Happy Halloween and Label were stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink on Watercolor Paper.  I added Pumpkin Pie Ink, again with my Aqua Painter and used my Paper Snips to cut away the pieces I didn’t want leaving what you see on the card.

The Owl was stamped on Whisper White Cardstock with Basic Black Archival Ink. I again fussy cut the image with my Paper Snips. I colored the beak and talons with my Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker. The branch was created with Basic Black Cardstock, paired with my Big Shot and the branch from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies Set.

All Images were adhered to the background with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Welcome to the Pals October 2017 Blog Hop featuring some very “Wicked Folds”.

Thank you so much for joining us today. Sit back and enjoy the view while the Stampin’ Pretty Pals treat you with their wickedly folded projects. Whether you’re just starting the hop, or have come from a previous Pal’s blog, you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.

Spooky Night Suite for a Wicked Folds Halloween Easel Shaped Invitation by Stesha Bloodhart Stampin' Hoot! For Pals October 2017 Blog Hop #palsbloghop #stampinup #halloween #halloweeninvitation #papercrafts #cardmaking #stamping #spookynight #catpunch #owl

I am sharing a lot of photos to ensure I cover all aspects of my Halloween Easel Card Party Invitation. I have never been a big one to endure creating a card using a bunch of crazy or in this case “wicked folds”.  I love the results and I think they are amazing, it’s just not my creative outlet.  When I looked at the “Wicked Folds” theme for the October 2017 Pals Blog Hop, I had no idea where to start.  I went to Pinterest and scanned the results of a “card folds” search only to come up with a bunch of samples I had no interest in pursuing.

Spooky Night Suite for a Wicked Folds Halloween Easel Shaped Invitation by Stesha Bloodhart Stampin' Hoot! For Pals October 2017 Blog Hop #palsbloghop #stampinup #halloween #halloweeninvitation #papercrafts #cardmaking #stamping #spookynight #catpunch #owl

So, I decided to create one from scratch and something I could make on the fly.  I wanted to keep it simple so I envisioned something like an easel but with a “window” you could see through.  I grabbed a 12×12 Widow Sheet and cut a piece to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, a standard sized A2 card front.

Spooky Night Suite for a Wicked Folds Halloween Easel Shaped Invitation by Stesha Bloodhart Stampin' Hoot! For Pals October 2017 Blog Hop #palsbloghop #stampinup #halloween #halloweeninvitation #papercrafts #cardmaking #stamping #spookynight #catpunch #owl

I then had to imagine how I could make it stand like an easel, so I grabbed a piece of 12×12 Black Cardstock and cut it down to 4 1/4 in x 12 in so it was the same width as the Window Sheet piece I had already cut.  I needed to attach the Window Sheet to something so I scored the Basic Black Cardstock at 1/2 inch and folded it over so that I could adhere the Window Sheet to the back side. (I used Fast Fuse).

I needed to make the back side of the easel the same height as the Window Sheet so I scored again at 6 inches. I then cut a piece of Spooky Night DSP to 4 1/4 in x 5 1/2 inch and adhered it with Fast Fuse to the inside of the Black Cardstock, so you are viewing it when you look through the Window Sheet. I decorated the top of the piece of DSP with images from the Spooky Cat Stamp Set, using the Cat Punch to quickly crop out the cat and my Paper Snips to fussy cut the remaining images.  The Tree and Moon Image that the Owl is sitting on, along with the Witch Hat on the Cat, are both snipped from a piece of the Spooky Night DSP.  All Images were adhered with Regular and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Now I needed to create the Bottom to hold up my Easel Top.  So I scored and folded three more times at 8 3/4 in (fold in), 9 1/4 in (fold in) and 9 3/4 in (fold out). I just happened to get lucky and it worked out perfectly.  It made a place holder for my Easel and a spot that I could add my invitation details. Note:  The Invitation Details were stamped with a retired Photopolymer Set called Invitation Details.  You can easily print this or handwrite it out if you do not have this set available to you.

The “You’re Invited” Image is from the Graveyard Gate Stamp Set and was stamped on Shimmery White Cardstock with Basic Black Archival Ink.  I snipped it out with the Paper Snips and adhered the ends to the top flap of the easel. Note: If you are going to put the invitation in the mail (mine will be handed off in person), you can move the You’re Invited image down so that it would fit in a Medium Envelope.

The Season to Sparkle Photopolymer Bundle (made up of the Season to Sparkle Stamp Set and Chandelier Thinlits Dies) was used to decorate the Window Sheet. The Chandelier was created by zipping the Chandelier Die through the Big Shot along with Shimmery White Cardstock.  I then colored it with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. The Hanging Spiders, Candles and Crows were all stamped on Shimmery White Cardstock with Basic Black Archival Ink and zipped with the Big Shot with the coordinating dies to quickly crop them out. I adhered them to the Window Sheet with the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.

I used the yellow paper clip from the Eclectic Shaped Paper Clips pack to hold the invite together (seen in the first and second photos) and show off the “Open If You DARE” sentiment from the Graveyard Gate Stamp Set. I used the Every Day Label Punch to crop out a piece of Spooky Night DSP and mount it behind the sentiment. The Crow on top was the final touch to the front of the invitation.

Thank you so much for hopping with the Stampin’ Pretty Pals today. Please take a minute to mark your calendar for our next hop on November 8, 2017. Now hop along using the Blog Hop Line-up below. Don’t forget to leave us a comment.

A Spooky and Fun Graveyard Gate Halloween Card

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because of the excitement it brings the kids!  My two boys start talking about what their costume is going to be several months ahead of time. Granted, it may morph and change to something different before we actually do our shopping, but the excitement never dies.

I have been pondering what I would do with this bundle for quite some time.  After making my galaxy background used on yesterday’s post, that was originally intended for this card, I decided to attempt the same technique, only this time adding in a moon to make it more Halloween.

(same as card base dimensions to accommodate the gate).  I added the color with my go-to Aqua Painter.  I first sketched out the moon to ensure that I did not get the dark colors from the sky in the wrong place.  I used the following colors on this card:
    • Moon: Smoky Slate and Crushed Curry
      • Be sure to leave some white space when coloring the moon.  I wanted to obtain a more lifelike look so I only shaded with my coloring.  I used just a little Crushed Curry for a yellow hue, I didn’t want it to be all bright white.  I wanted a cloud hanging in front of the moon so I added a bit more of smoky slate to it.
    • Sky: Night of Navy, Rich Razzleberry, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant, Dapper Denim and Whisper White Craft Ink Refill
      • I randomly added the mix of colors to the card, making sure to leave the moon and also add some lighter areas around where I was going to set the grave markers.
  • The Graveyard Gate was cut with the Big Shot, the Precision Base Plate and Watercolor Paper.
    • Tip: Since the Watercolor Paper is thicker, run it back and forth through the Big Shot a few times to ensure a solid cut.
    • After cutting out the gate, I colored it with my Aqua Painter and Night of Navy Ink.  I scored the ends twice at 1/8 in intervals and folded them over.  I added Fast Fuse to the inside fold and adhered it to the 2nd Layer. (see photo below)
    • I also cut the center of the gate so it would look like it can easily be opened.
    • The Lock was also cut with the Big Shot, but make sure you swap out your plate and use a Standard Cutting Pad to ensure you do not damage the die.  I colored the lock with Smoky Slate Ink.
  • The Graveyard Stones were stamped on Watercolor Paper with Smoky Slate Ink.  I blended the color with my Aqua Painter and then snipped them out with my Paper Snips.
  • The Sentiments were stamped with Smoky Slate Ink onto Shimmery White Cardstock.  I cut them closely with my Paper Snips and adhered them with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Here is a close-up of the moon so that you can see the watercolor details.   The white dots are representing stars / galaxy and they are obtained by using a drop of White Craft Ink Refill, an Aqua Painter, squeeze of water and tapping over the top of the cardstock.

The headstones were strategically placed on the “hill” and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and Fast Fuse to add depth.  I snipped the hook on the lock so that I could wrap it around both sides of the gate and make it more like it was locked.
