I love mixing Bermuda Bay with Wood Texture!  If I had my way with decorating, my entire house would be some shade of teal with a dark wood!  My style is definitely reflected well in this card.  I also love rustic charm paired with a Northwoods feel (hence the use of the Buffalo Check stamp on so many recent creations).

I love mixing Pool Party and Bermuda Bay as a light and dark shade of teal on the flowers, it compliments the card so well.  The font in the Happy Birthday sentiment, part of the Botanical Bliss Stamp Set, is so lovely and perfect for this card. Flagging the end with the Banner Triple Punch (my most loved punch) adds just the right touch.

TGIF! It’s Time for a Product Spotlight!
Welcome to another TGIF Challenge, this week it’s time for a product spotlight! Washi Tape and Baker’s Twine!  I love them both, but definitely do not incorporate washi tape enough into my creations, so I was happy for a challenge that forced me to use it!  I am slowly checking off unused items from my list…yay!

One of my favorite color combinations is Lemon Lime Twist and Basic Black.  I chose the Broadway Bound Designer Series Paper first, then paired it with the Black Foil Sheet from the 2018 Holiday Catalog!  I think it was a perfect match for a gender neutral birthday card.

Winter Woods Masculine Birthday Card

Winter Woods Bundle by Stampin' Up! Masculine Birthday Card by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! #steshabloodhart #stampinhoot

Today’s masculine birthday card is another product of my Northwoods retreat…do you think that being in a woodsy type setting for 4 days was an inspiration for my creations?  I sure do!  I promise I have a variety to share with you, but I just love this Winter Woods Masculine Birthday card so much that I couldn’t wait to share it with you.  No fancy techniques here, just a cut and paste kind of card.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. With a Stampin’ Trimmer, cut a piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.  Score and fold at 4 1/4″.
  2. Using the Stamparatus (stamp positioning tool) stamp the Buffalo Check Background Stamp in Soft Suede Ink onto Soft Suede Cardstock.  Note: It may take a few applications to get the desired coverage. Cut to 5 1/4″ to 4 1/8″. Adhere with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  3. Cut a piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock to 3 1/8″ x 5 1/4″.  Adhere with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  5. Cut a piece of Soft Suede Cardstock to 1 1/4″ x 5 1/8″.  Zip through the Big Shot tucked inside the Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Use the tip of a petal from the Daisy Punch to notch the ends.  Wrap 3 loops of Linen Thread, securing to the back with Snail Adhesive.  Crinkle the edges.
  6. Add Linen Thread to the center of a True Gentlemen Button then secure to the corrugated cardstock as shown.
  7. Stamp two trees (Winter Woods) in Soft Suede ink onto Crumb Cake Cardstock. Crop with a Big Shot and the coordinating framelit die.
  8. Crop two twig images with the framelit and Crumb Cake Cardstock.  Adhere all as shown with Snail Adhesive and Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  9. Stamp the sentiment (Big Wishes Stamp Set) in Soft Suede Ink onto a piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock.  Trim to size and adhere with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Did you know: the tip of a petal from the Daisy Punch makes the perfect notch in the cardstock to slip in and hold a few wraps of Linen Thread?  It just happened to be sitting on my table when I created this card and as I was struggling to get the Linen Thread to sit where I wanted it…voilà, the notch was born.

I can’t get enough of that Buffalo Check background stamp.  It adds the perfect amount of rustic to this masculine card.

My most popular card on Pinterest!  The Buffalo Check and Winter Woods Christmas Card!  It has a similar look and feel to this card, only I used the classic red and black for my Buffalo Check.  You can see the original post here.

Pals Blog Hop August 2018 – Cut It Out

Welcome to the Pals August 2018 Blog Hop. We love to cut it out so this month our creations feature our favorite “cuts” using punches, Framelits, and Thinlits from the current Stampin’ Up! catalog.

You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

Cut it Out! Lilypad Lake Birthday Card

Since the Lilypad Lake Bundle has die cuts that coordinate with all the stamped images, I decided to use that set to create a birthday card for the Pals Blog Hop: Cut it Out!  The largest die cut from the Limited Release Stitched Season Framelits creates a framed card scene that makes the card stand out.

Lilypad Lake Bundle by Stampin' Up! Handmade Birthday Card created by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! for Pals Blog Hop August 2018 #steshabloodhart #stampinhoot

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. With a Stampin’ Trimmer, cut a piece of Coastal Cabana Cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 11″.  Score and fold at 5 1/2″.
  2. Using an Aqua Painter, create a watercolor wash background on a piece of Watercolor Paper.  I used Classic Inks:  Sahara Sand, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay, & Crushed Curry. After the ink dries, crop out the background using a Big Shot and the largest label die from the Stitched Seasons Framelits Dies.  Adhere to the center of the card base with Snail Adhesive.
  3. Cut a piece of Coastal Cabana Cardstock to 4 1/4″ x  5 1/2″.  Crop the frame using the same Stitched Seasons Framelit Die.  Adhere to the card base with Foam Adhesive Strips.
  4. Stamp the following images onto Shimmery White Cardstock using Stazon Ink:  Sun, Sail Boats, Lilypads, Crane. Crop with a Big Shot and the coordinating dies from the Lakeside Framelits Dies. Also, crop two grass die cuts of Shimmery White Cardstock.
  5. Color the images with an Aqua Painter.  Crane: Smoky Slate, Grass: Old Olive & Pear Pizzazz, Lilypad: Petal Pink, Old Olive, & Pear Pizzazz, Sail Boats:  Smoky Slate & Coastal Cabana, Sun: Crushed Curry & Mango Melody
  6. Adhere all images with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The card is fairly simple to create, I recommend using a fair amount of water when creating the watercolor wash background.  I applied the ink at an angle, adding a bit more ink to spots that I wanted a little deeper tone.

Lilypad Lake Bundle by Stampin' Up! Handmade Birthday Card created by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! for Pals Blog Hop August 2018 #steshabloodhart #stampinhoot

When coloring the images with an Aqua Painter, you want to use very little ink and water, adding ink to areas to create a shading effect, little by little. I like to cover the image very lightly with the base color, then slowly add more ink to spots that I think might have a shadow cast.

Lilypad Lake Bundle by Stampin' Up! Handmade Birthday Card created by Stesha Bloodhart, Stampin' Hoot! for Pals Blog Hop August 2018 #steshabloodhart #stampinhoot

You can also use Shimmery White Cardstock as the base for your watercolor wash background.  I tend to gravitate towards Watercolor Paper as it absorbs more water and I can get a bit more of a washed look.
